Asante Kotoko have announced the appointment of Hamza Obeng as the club’s new assistant coach, with an additional role as head coach of the Young Porcupines, the club’s youth development team.
Obeng has signed a two-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors, marking his return to the top tier of Ghanaian football. He joins from Vision FC, where he made history by guiding the Tema-based side to their maiden Ghana Premier League promotion during the 2023/24 Division One season.
The 2021 double-winning deputy coach is best remembered for his successful tenure at Hearts of Oak, where he worked alongside Samuel Boadu to deliver the Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup titles in 2021, followed by another FA Cup win in 2022.
Kotoko are banking on Obeng’s experience and expertise in youth development to reinforce their technical setup, which is currently headed by interim coach Abdul Karim Zito.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Hamza Obeng Mohammed as assistant coach for the senior team and head coach for the Young Porcupines for two years,” the club stated in an official announcement.
Obeng’s arrival is part of Kotoko’s renewed efforts to rebuild both the senior squad and their youth structures, as the club aims to bounce back following a disappointing league campaign.
The appointment also comes ahead of a crucial fixture, with Kotoko set to face Golden Kick in the MTN FA Cup finalthis Sunday — their final shot at silverware this season.
