The Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah has revealed the club made attempts to sign former Black Stars of Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan prior to the start of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.
The former Sunderland hitman was heavily linked with a move to the Porcupine Warriors after becoming a free agent but any moves to get the signature of the player failed to materialise with Gyan going on to sign for Legon Cities.
The Kumai-based club then turned their attentions to former Brazil youth international, Fabio Gama, who has quickly become a fans favourite in the Porcupine family.
Nana Yaw Amponsah detailed the club’s pursuit of Ghana’s all-time top-scorer during an exclusive interview with Happy FM on Friday.
“At some point we wanted Asamaoh Gyan. We pushed but it didn’t happen then we opted for Fabio Gama,” he said on the morning show.
The Kotoko CEO also went on to plead for patience from the club’s supporters as he believes the team will gradually gain momentum in the coming years.
He added: “I will plead with our supporters to exercise patience because we will never have a perfect team but then we have a formidable team. If I signed five players and three or more are performing, is that a failure?”
