Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Fredrick Asare has described his inclusion in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Mali as a significant achievement.
Formerly with Accra Lions, Asare is the sole player from the Ghana Premier League named in Otto Addo’s 26-man squad announced on Wednesday for the crucial qualifiers.
Expressing his joy at being called up to the senior national team for the second time, Asare shared his excitement in an interview on Asempa FM.
“Globally, in Europe, Asia, and Africa, there are many talented Ghanaian goalkeepers. Even here in Ghana, we have excellent goalkeepers,” he remarked. “Being selected for the national team by the coach and receiving his compliments is a significant achievement for me. I am truly happy to represent my country.”
Ghana is set to face Mali in Bamako on Thursday in the third round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, followed by a match against the Central African Republic in Kumasi four days later.
Currently, Ghana sits fourth in Group I with three points, trailing leaders Comoros by three points.
