Italian Serie A side Atalanta have officially made contact with Southampton over the potential signing of Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, as interest in the explosive attacker continues to grow ahead of the summer transfer window.
The move could see Sulemana reunited with newly appointed Atalanta manager Ivan Jurić, who is a long-time admirer of the 22-year-old Ghanaian international. Jurić is believed to see Sulemana as a key component in his plans to inject more pace and direct attacking threat into Atalanta’s forward line next season.
Sulemana joined Southampton from Stade Rennais in January 2023, but despite flashes of brilliance, he struggled for consistent minutes in the English Championship due to injuries and tactical rotations. With Southampton returning to the Premier League, the Saints may consider parting ways with the winger if the right offer comes through.
Genoa, who have also shown strong interest in the player, remain in the race for his signature. The Serie A club has been monitoring Sulemana’s situation closely and sees him as a dynamic addition to bolster their flanks.
Sulemana, known for his blistering pace and flair, has 18 caps for Ghana and was part of the Black Stars squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. A move to Serie A could provide a fresh opportunity for the winger to reignite his career and gain more regular top-flight football.
Negotiations are still in the early stages, but Atalanta’s approach signals their intent to strengthen their squad ahead of a campaign that includes European competition.
