The Management and Technical team of Ghana’s U23 national team, the Black Meteors, held a joint meeting on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Football Association Headquarters to firm up early preparations for the upcoming U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers,  the pathway to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Chaired by Management Committee Chairman Eugene Nobel Noel, the meeting focused on reviewing the technical team’s preliminary plans for scouting, camping and potential international friendlies. The committee stressed the importance of early, well-coordinated preparations to ensure Ghana ends its long-standing absence from the Olympic Games.

Head Coach Desmond Ofei, who joined the meeting via Zoom, presented an elaborate scouting and preparation strategy. He revealed that the technical team is ready to begin camping in January 2026, setting the tone for an intensive programme aimed at building a highly competitive squad.

Members unanimously agreed that the Black Meteors must assemble a formidable blend of both foreign-based and home-based talents capable of navigating the arduous qualification process and ultimately securing Ghana’s return to the Olympic stage.

Recognising the demanding nature of the qualifiers and the resources required, the Management Committee emphasised the need for increased support from government and corporate institutions.

GFA Business Development Manager,  Janice Odonkor,  underscored the significant value of Olympic qualification for national branding and football development. She assured members that active efforts are underway to court corporate partners for the team, promising positive outcomes in the coming months.

The meeting was also attended by Management Committee members Michael Boakye, Nana Kwame Dankwa and GFA Technical Director Prof. Joseph Mintah.

The Technical Team was well represented by Assistant Coaches, Yaw Preko and Baba Nuhu Mallam as well as Goalkeepers Coach, Muntari Tagoe, Team Doctor, Eric Tetteh, Physiotherapist Collins Annor-Ofei, Masseur Henry Bart-Plange and Kits Officer Baba Aluta

The Black Meteors will begin preparations in the coming weeks, with scouting, training camps and friendly matches expected to shape the team for what promises to be a hopeful journey toward AFCON qualification and a historic Olympic return.
