Ghanaian forward Issah Abass was in action for Bundesliga team FSV Mainz 05 in the German DFB Pokal on Friday against TSV Havelse.
The 22-year-old started his first game for the Red and Whites in two-years after playing last season on loan at FC Utrecht in the Netherlands Eredivisie.
Noah Plume scored in the 17th minutes of the match to put the minors in front as the first half ended with the Bundesliga side trailing by a goal.
After the recess,Dutch star and club captain Jean-Paul Boetius set up striker Jean-Philippe Mateta to restore parity for Mainz with over Half an hour left on the clock.
Adam Szalai after replacing the former Asokwa Deportivo SC winger, Abass, scored Mainz’s second goal of the match on the 77th minutes to complete the turn around.
Mateta added the third goal to make it 3-1 two minutes later to give the host a breathing space in the first game of the season.
Four minutes away from the final whistle, Swiss-born Ghanaian forward Robin Quaison netted the fourth on the evening to bring the score at 4-1.
On the 90th minutes of the match, French striker, Mateta grabbed his impressive hat-trick by adding the icing on the cake when he scored Mainz’s five to make it 5-1.
Abass is expected to be a pivot for the Mainz team this season after struggling seasons ago to make amends.
