Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has revealed that enhancing the team’s attacking efficiency—particularly chance creation and goal scoring—is his top priority as Ghana gears up for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking at the conclusion of a nine-day training camp at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Bjorkegren emphasized the need to sharpen the team’s performance in the final third.
“Over the past weeks, we’ve been testing a lot of players, and now we’re focusing on piecing everything together,” he told the Ghana Football Association’s media. “The final piece tactically is in the final third—how we connect our wingers with the number nines. That’s probably the most important part now: creating more chances and scoring more goals, which is essential to winning games.”
The Swedish coach noted that while the team has made notable improvements in various areas, finishing remains a concern that must be addressed in upcoming camps.
Bjorkegren also praised the quality and potential of the players who participated in the camp, pointing out several standout performers.
“You can really see the talent in these players when you spend time with them and get to know them. Overall, it’s been really good,” he said. “There are five or six players we’ll continue to monitor closely—Abigail, Nancy, Fatima, for example—and maybe two or three others as well.”
The Black Queens will compete in Group C at the 2025 WAFCON, which runs from July 5 to 26. Ghana will face a tough test, having been drawn alongside defending champions South Africa, as well as Tanzania and Mali.
