Ghana’s male senior national team [Black Stars] former management committee member Yaw Boateng Gyan believes the players $10,000 winning bonus should be restored as a major boost to enable the team meet its target of winning the 2017 Nations Cup in Gabon.
Mr. Yaw Boateng speaking on Kumasi based Abusua FM said though Ghanaians have gone mad at the Black Stars recently for making outrageous bonus demands they should be pardon this time as they want to bring Ghana’s 35 years trophy drought to a closure.
But Mr. Gyan feels the Black Stars would defied all odds to win Ghana its first African trophy in thirty-five 35 years should their bonus be restored to the initial $10,000 paid them after winning a game for the country..
The Black Stars players recently pleaded to Ghana’s president-elect to restore their winning bonus to $10,000 as the team prepares gears up for the 2017 Nations Cup slated for Gabon.
”This is a trophy that has eluded us [Ghana for 35 years and now the coach has been charged by the nation’s football governing body GFA to win the trophy having failed to do so in the previous edition so why should winning bonus issue hinder our chances for me I think we should listen to the players appeal and pay them the said amount to ensure they put smiles on the faces of Ghanaians by winning the trophy in Gabon”. Said Yaw Boateng Gyan.
The Black Stars saw their bonus slashed to $8000 under Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye tenure as sports minister.
