Ghana Coach Kwesi Appiah has revealed that he needs only committed payers in his team.
Appiah’s comment comes after a session of the public chastised his call-ups ahead for next Month’s Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya.
Captain Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Mubarak Wakaso and Jonathan Mensah, were all not named in Kwesi Appiah’s 21 man squad, however, the list saw the return of Inter Milan star Kwadwo Asamoah who has not featured for the Black Stars after the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
The former Ghanaian international says he invited players who are committed and ready to die for the Nation.
“I believe players must fight for their jerseys; no player is bigger than Ghana. You will bear with me that we don’t have players who bluff the nation due to the fact that we have a lot of gifted players. Appiah told the media at a ceremony held to announce a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Kwasi Appiah Foundation and Ashfoam.
“We are building the team for 2019 and beyond and so the fact that a player is absent today doesn’t mean the door is perpetually closed to that player.
“I don’t think it makes sense for a coach to fight a player; players don’t give their best shots in such cases; it is neither here nor there for people to think a player is not in a team because there is tension between the coach and the player,” Appiah added.
Coach Kwesi Appiah and his charges will pitch camp on September 3 in Ethiopia before enplaning to Nairobi to face Kenya on September 8.
