The Ghana Football Association has explained in a statement why Arsenal star midfielder Thomas Partey failed to travel to Rabat on Sunday with the Black Stars team for Tuesday’s international friendly against Morocco.
Reports in the Ghanaian media on Monday morning claimed the former Atletico Madrid star had been sacked from the Black Stars camp by head coach Charles Akonnor for late arrival.
However, the FA in a statement has dismissed such reports, stating that the player was excused from the team after seeking perform to address some personal issues.
”Thomas travelled to Cape Coast on Thursday to meet Coach Charles Akonnor over some personal issues. After the meeting which lasted for about an hour, the Coach excused him from the trip to Morocco – and asked him to report to camp for the second game against Ivory Coast. As the 1st Deputy Captain of the Black Stars, Thomas later joined his colleagues in training to show solidarity and support before leaving for Accra. The Arsenal midfielder will therefore team up with the rest of the squad on Thursday when the team returns from Morocco,” said the Ghana Fa in a statement.
Ghana’s game against Morocco is scheduled for 20:00GMT kick off at the FAR Sportive stadium in Rabat.
The team will return home shortly after the match to prepare for another international friendly against Ivory Coast at the Cape Coast Stadium on 12th June, 2021.
