Ghanaian goalkeeper Joseph Anang has been shortlisted for the Soccer Writers Ireland (SWI) League of Ireland Goalkeeper of the Year Award following a stellar season with St. Patrick’s Athletic in the 2025 League of Ireland Premier Division.
Anang was a rock between the sticks, finishing the campaign with the most clean sheets in the league and marshaling a defensive unit that conceded the fewest goals. His consistency, sharp reflexes, and leadership were key to the Saints’ impressive defensive record and strong league push.
The 24-year-old featured in 36 matches, conceding only 32 goals while keeping 18 clean sheets, cementing his reputation as one of the league’s most reliable goalkeepers. His outstanding form has also bolstered his standing within the Ghana national team, for whom he made his debut last week in a friendly against Japan.
Anang will compete for the prestigious award against Shamrock Rovers’ Ed McGinty and Derry City’s Brian Maher, both of whom enjoyed strong seasons of their own. The winners of the 2025 SWI Awards will be announced on Friday, December 5th, where Anang will hope to cap off a remarkable season with one of Irish football’s top individual honours.
