Ghana international forward, Kwame Opoku has let the cat out of the box concerning his decision to join Algerian giants USM Alger despite receiving many offers from other big teams across the globe.
The former Nkoranza Warriors attacker speaking for the first time as a USM Alger player stated emphatically that there were so many offers for him on the table but he decided to join the Red and Blacks in Algeria.
“I received a lot of offers and there were a lot of lucrative deals for me from other teams across the world but I decided to not give it a thought because I was not ready to leave Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC that early in my career at the club”, he told the press.
According to Opoku, he wanted to stay a bit longer at the Kumasi-based club and achieve greatness together with the team and that was the main reason why he wasn’t entertaining offers from other teams.
“I wanted to stay at Asante Kotoko SC for a little bit longer than the time I spent there and that was one of the main reasons why I didn’t want to move to another club so I could achieve great things at the Red and Whites outfit.”
“I was determined to stay at Kotoko and make a good mark and develop more as a professional footballer but I finally decided to join this big club, USM Alger because my advisers told me how the club has put in place a good development plan for me as a player and how that is going to help me reach the apex of my career”, he said.
He further revealed that after the meeting with his advisor and his former team Kotoko, everything was clear to him that if he’s going to leave the Ghana Premier League giants it wouldn’t be to any other team but USM Alger.
“After the various meetings and considerations, it was very important and clear to me that if I was going to leave Asante Kotoko SC for any club this early in my football career then there was no other better platform than the one being offered me here at USM Alger and hence my final decision to be here today”, the deadly striker concluded.
Opoku, who played his first game for Ghana against South Africa in the AFCON qualifiers has been dubbed as a potential candidate who could go a long way to succeed the four-time AFCON winners all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan in the near future with proper management.
The young forward became a fans favorite of Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC and an instant hit in the Ghanaian top-flight having moved from a lower-tier side before the start of the and is expected by so many optimistic Ghanaian football fans to excel in Algeria.
