Ghanaian football legend Mohammed Polo remains optimistic about the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite a rocky start in their qualifying campaign.
The four-time African champions have struggled to secure a victory in their opening matches in Group F, suffering a defeat to Angola and managing only a draw against Niger last month.
When asked about the Black Stars’ qualification prospects, Polo affirmed, “Yes! It is not over for Ghana. We will struggle a bit, but we will definitely qualify.”
While he expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back, Polo stressed the importance of improving their performance in upcoming matches. “I urge the team to uplift their performance. There will be pressure because of how they started the qualifiers, but they need to improve,” he added in an interview with Ghanasoccernet.com.
The Black Stars will face Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 11, 2024, following CAF’s approval for the venue. This match is crucial for Ghana as they seek to regain momentum in the qualifiers before traveling to Libya for the return leg against Sudan at the Martyrs of February Stadium on October 14.
As anticipation builds, Ghana’s head coach Otto Addo has yet to announce his squad for this pivotal clash. The Black Stars are aiming to secure one of the top two spots in Group F to qualify for the AFCON tournament, which is set to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
