Black Stars winger Ernest Asante scored the only goal for Omonia Nicosia as they beat rivals Apoel Nicosia at home on Saturday evening.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian forward scored the opening goal of the match to put the hosts 1-0 up early in the game after eight minutes played on the clock.
The home team, Omonia Nicosia had the chance to make it 2-0 on the 43rd minute but Fotis Papoulis missed the spot kick as the first half finished with just a goal in it.
After the break, both teams attacked but could not utilize their chances as Asante’s goal proved to be enough to win the Green and Whites all three points.
Asante, 32, has scored eight goals in the Cypriot First Division this season in 23 appearances and one assist to his name.
