Midfield dynamo Chantelle Louise Boye-Hlorkah could not hide her excitement after guiding Ghana to a commanding 4-1 win against Tanzania at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Monday night.
The result, earned at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, was Ghana’s first victory of the tournament following a 2-0 defeat to South Africa and a 1-1 draw with Mali.
Boye-Hlorkah, who scored Ghana’s fourth goal and was later named Player of the Match, said she felt perfectly at ease in the role assigned to her.
“I enjoyed the position today. I love playing on the wing, but this more central role suits me as well,” she explained. “I’m delighted I could contribute in several areas on the pitch and help the team.”
The England-born midfielder, making her WAFCON debut for Ghana, quickly passed the praise to those around her.
“Any one of my teammates could have taken this award. I’m grateful to the coach for trusting me, and to the squad and staff for their support,” she added, sporting a broad smile.
Ghana’s goals came from Princella Adubea, Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu, and Boye-Hlorkah, lifting the Black Queens to second place in Group C and booking a quarter-final berth.
The team now turns its focus to a knockout clash with Algeria on Saturday, 19 July 2025, again in Berkane, with kick-off set for 17:00 GMT.
