Ghana Premier League Champions Accra Hearts of Oak SC could be walking over Guinean opponent CI Kamsar in CAF Champions League preliminary game following a reported Military Coup attack in Conakry.
Wide range of reports coming from Guinea says the Military attempted a coup d’etat against President Alpha Condé and his government in the early hours of Sunday, September 5.
“Since 8 am (local time), automatic weapon fire has been ringing in Kaloum, the business and administrative district and the headquarters of the presidential palace,” local media reported “Guinea News”.
The newspaper noted that “the reasons for these shots which terrorize the population” are not known for the moment (11h UT).
“All the streets have been deserted, while heavy gunfire continues. The soldiers, visibly unhappy, empty the magazines of their weapons, while the inhabitants of Kaloum remain holed up, terrorized and worried”
The first leg of the CAF Champions League between the two teams is scheduled for 12 September in Guinea.
Due to the recent developments in Guinea with regards to the Coup d’etat, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) may be considering the safety of players by arranging for the game to be played outside Guinea or award the Phobians a win to walk into the next round unscathed.
