Brendan Rodgers has Leicester’s full backing for squad overhaul

Brendan Rodgers has the full backing of Leicester City’s board despite the club’s current struggles, as reported by 90min.

After leading the Foxes to back-to-back fifth-place Premier League finishes over the past two seasons, Rodgers has struggled to get the best out of his players this campaign.

Leicester currently sit tenth in the Premier League table, 12 points off Manchester United in fourth, albeit with two games in hand. They also crashed out of the Europa League group stages in December and were humiliated 4-1 by local rivals Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Rodgers was left fuming after that defeat, describing the result as ’embarrassing’ and also hinting that several underperforming players could be moved on in the summer.

Despite all of this, 90min understands that Leicester have no intention of parting ways with the Northern Irishman. Rodgers enjoys a strong relationship with chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha and director of football Jon Rudkin, and the pair intend to back him fully as he looks to overhaul the squad.

Sources have indicated that although the club are unhappy that a top-six finish looks increasingly unlikely, they acknowledge that key injuries to the likes of Jonny Evans, Wesley Fofana, Wilfred Ndidi, Jamie Vardy and several others have hampered their progress this season.

Club officials fully believe that Rodgers, who they view as one of the best managers in the Premier League, is the ideal man to turn the situation around.

Leicester have a string of tough games coming up that could define their season. They kick that run off with an intimidating trip to Anfield, before hosting high-flying West Ham in the Premier League. The two legs of their Europa Conference League tie against Randers are then sandwiched between an east meets west midlands clash with Wolves.
