Nottingham Forest have identified Congolese forward Yoane Wissa as the perfect replacement for Swedish winger Anthony Elanga, who sealed a £55 million move to Newcastle United in the second week of July in the current transfer window.
Wissa formed an unstoppable attack with Bryan Mbeumo for Brentford in the 2024-25 season, where both scored a combined 39 goals for the Bees.
Brentford will be eager to keep the experienced forward left in the team now, although a fee in the region of £50 million can convince them to sell him.
The forward left the club’s training camp in Portugal on Tuesday, where they were to face Portuguese side Gil Vicente, because of uncertainties surrounding his future.
He will turn 29 in September and would love to test himself in European football, as all his suitors will compete in the UCL and Conference League in the upcoming season.
Three Premier League clubs chase Wissa
Aside from Nottingham Forest, who have offered a bid of around £30 million for Yoane Wissa, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are all preparing a bid for the 28-year-old.
Thomas Frank, who has managed Wissa since he joined the Bees from French side Lorient in the summer of 2021, wants to reunite with the talented forward at Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle United have been on the market for a versatile forward who can play across all the front three positions, and they are convinced Wissa can offer them the quality they are looking for.
After a failed bid for Brazilian forward Joao Pedro of Brighton & Hove Albion by the Magpies, they are ready to go all out for Wissa, who they see as someone who can complement Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak’s efforts.
Why are teams chasing Wissa?
The Congolese scored an astonishing 19 goals from open play and provided 4 assists in the just-past season, making him one of the most prolific forwards of the English top-flight currently.
Tactically, the Congolese forward is very flexible as he can quickly adapt to many tactics and formations.
Thomas Frank got the best out of him in his preferred 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 formation, making him a versatile player who could be relied on against different opponents.
At 29, clubs believe Wissa will not need any time for adaptation as he understands all the details about the English Premier League.
