Former Ghana player Augustine Arhinful has recommended youngster Tariq Lamptey of Brighton and Hove Albion who is still eligible to play for the Black Stars despite playing for England at the youth level.
According to the outspoken TV pundit, Ghana needs a player of Tariq Lamptey’s calibre in the Black Stars to help the four-time AFCON champions to book a place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup competition.
“We need Tariq Lamptey of Brighton. He is also an option for us at the right-back. I would have told him that if he is looking to play for England there isn’t a chance at national level so he should consider Ghana, which will help him in his CV. If it is the father you must get through to him then let’s do it”.
Lamptey is yet to represent any national team at the senior level and the former Obuasi Ashantigold SC player believes he could help solve Ghana’s impending right-back headache.
“We are looking for results and we get such a player and he perform the coach will be happy and Ghanaians will also be happy”, he told Accra-based Happy FM in an exclusive interview.
Lamptey, after his return from injury has been immense for the Blue and Whites outfit in the 2021-22 England Premier League campaign.
