Rising star Tariq Lamptey is yet to choose between England and Ghana for international allegiance.
The 19-year-old Brighton right-back represented England at the age of 21 in a game against Austria but still remains eligible to play for Ghana’s senior national team- Black Stars.
Lamptey comes from Ghana and the country’s football governing body- Football Association has publicly expressed its desire of getting him to play for his motherland.
Ghana’s pursuit for Lamtey will be over completely should England boss Gareth Southgate hand him a call-up to the Three Lions squad.
The Chelsea Academy graduate will fight on the right side of the defence against Trent Alexander-Arnold, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Reece James should he opt to play for England.
Asked in an interview conducted by The Sun whether he has decided which country to play for and whether the competition he faces in the position he played for make him play for Ghana, the youngster said: ‘No. I’m still young so I’m just looking forward to the next game and keep playing as well as possible. Whatever comes next, we’ll see.
He continued that: ”At the moment I’m just focused on Brighton and playing as many games as possible, keep training as hard as possible, keep playing well and keep a consistent level. At the end of the day, the harder I work and the more games I get in are the most important things for my development.”
