AshantiGold SC, recorded a narrow 3-2 win over Moroccan side R.S Berkane in the first leg of the second round of the 2019,2020 Caf Confederation Cup at the Len Clay Stadium on Saturday.
The miners despite picking a comfortable 2-0 lead in the first half, ended the game with a 3-2 victory.
Defender Eric Donkor gave hosts the lead just 15 minutes into the game with a brilliant touch of class.
Midfield gem Appiah Maccarthy, nearly increased the Miners’ tally to 2-0 in the 25 minute mark from a freekick but unfortunately saw his shot hit the cross bar.
R. S Berkane had to make a quick substitution in the 31st minute after Bakre El Helaali had made way for Souhail Yechou after going down.
AshantiGold SC kept mounting pressure on the Moroccan side in attempt to score more goals and finally picked a 2-0 lead through captain Shafiu Mumuni on the 45th minute.
Back from recess, Mohammed Aziz pulled one back for the visitors in the 51st minute as a result of a poor defending on the part of Ashantigold.
Mohammed Farehane then drew Berkane level in the 57th minute with a low strike.
AshantiGold regained power and restored their lead two minutes later courtesy winger Amos Addai.
James Akaminko’s could have given the miners a 4-2 lead in the 75th minute but his long range shot was saved by Laaroubi.
Coach Ricardo Da Rocha later introduced Amos Nkrumah into the game to replace Marco Aurélio who wasn’t at his best quality in the game.
Emmanuel Osei Baffour however came on to replace Abdul Latif Anabila in the 86th minute as Ashgold pushed for their fourth goal but his substitution had little impact in the game, ending the match 3-2 in favour of the Obuasi-based side.
The reverse leg comes off next two weeks later in Morocco.
