President of the Confederation of African Football [CAF], Patrice Motsepe is full of confidence that African countries can compete and win the World Cup following the continent’s output at the just-ended 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
In the five countries that represented African at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Atlas Lions of Morocco became the first African side to play in the semifinals of the tournament.
In the third and fourth place, the Atlas Lions suffered a defeat against Croatia to finish in fourth place.
At a press conference in Johannesburg to assess Africa’s World Cup participation in Qatar, Patrice Motsepe had this to say.
“If you look at the talent on the African continent, in my mind there is approximately ten nations in Africa now that can compete at the highest level in the world and win,” Patrice Motsepe said.
“It may be 15 but I have to say we have to encourage every single one of the 54 nations in Africa.
“If Croatia can make it with 3.5 million people, the beauty of the people of this continent and what we can achieve together when we work together when we unite and of course, football for us is at the heart of it.” The business magnate added.
Cameroon, Ghana and Tunisia exited the group phase while Cameroon played in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Ghana who exited the competition from the group stage, was ranged the 24th beat team at the global showpiece.
