The Senegalese Football Federation has been hit with a total fine of 615,000 dollars by the Confederation of African Football following widespread misconduct involving players, technical officials, and supporters during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
CAF’s Disciplinary Board ruled that the actions of Senegal’s camp during the decisive match against Morocco breached key principles of fair play, discipline, and integrity, bringing the game into disrepute.
The highly charged final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium was disrupted when Senegal’s players walked off the pitch for about 17 minutes in protest against a late penalty decision awarded to Morocco. Order was eventually restored after senior players, led by Sadio Mane, convinced their teammates to resume play.
Despite the dramatic interruption, Senegal went on to lift the AFCON trophy after extra time. Midfielder Pape Gueye proved decisive with a superb goal, sealing victory after Morocco’s Brahim Diaz failed to convert a crucial penalty.
Following a detailed review of events, CAF imposed separate fines that together make up the heavy sanction. Senegal’s football body was fined 300,000 dollars for the misconduct of its supporters, whose actions were deemed damaging to the image of the game.
An additional 300,000 dollars was imposed for the unsporting behaviour of Senegal’s players and technical staff, while a further 15,000 dollars was levied after five Senegal players were cautioned during the final.
CAF stated that the combined actions undermined the values of loyalty, respect, and sportsmanship expected at continental competitions.
The Senegalese Football Federation is expected to consider its options, with an appeal against the ruling likely in the coming days.
The decision brings formal closure to disciplinary matters arising from one of the most dramatic and controversial Africa Cup of Nations finals in recent history.
