CAF Women’s Champions League finals: Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies vs Sporting Club Casablanca preview

The 3rd edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League ends today with a thrilling encounter between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies of South Africa and Sporting Club Casablanca of Morocco.

An incredible tournament deserves a scintillating final as this fixture promises to be.

Head to head

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Sporting Club Casablanca have met just once in this young competition with the Bayana Ba Style beating the Moroccans 1-0 in the group stages of the ongoing competition.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies

Mamelodi Sundowns have appeared in all Finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League in 2021 and 2022. They won the inaugural event in 2021 and finished second in 2022 after losing to another Moroccan side, ASFAR 4-0.

Road to the finals

The Brazilians have won all four games in the competition having scored 6 goals and conceded none.

Sporting Club Casablanca

Sporting Club Casablanca, on the other side, are appearing in their first final. They advanced to the final after eliminating Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa on penalties after a thrilling draw 2-2.

Road to the finals

SC Casablanca has won  2 games in the four games played so far with the semi-final win coming through a penalty shootout against Ampem Darkoa. In matchday two,  they lost 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns who they will play against this afternoon and the other win was a 4-1 thrashing of JKT Queens in MD3.

What is at stake?

The stakes are high as the winner will get USD 400,000 while the runner-up will also earn USD 250,000.

Prize money breakdown

• Winner:                USD 400, 000

• Runners-up:         USD 250, 000

• Semi-finalists:       USD 200, 000

• Third of Group:     USD 150, 000

• Fourth of Group:   USD 100, 000

* The winner will lift the coveted trophy which will guarantee her a bragging right until next year. Sundowns are chasing their second trophy as SC Casablanca is chasing their first.

Prediction

Mamelodi Sundowns has a slight advantage having beaten SC Casablanca in the group stage 1-0. They also have the experience required at this level. Expect a tough game.
