Offensive midfielder Mohammed Abdul Basit has returned to former club Berekum Chelsea for the second round of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League and was on target on Wednesday as Chelsea won 3-1 over Ashantigold.
The influential captain, 24, opened the scoring in the 35th minute to put his team ahead before Paul Atta Agyei and Stephen Amankona added two more goals in the 51st and 68th minutes respectively.
Berekum Chelsea have struggled for majority of this season as they lie 11th on the league standings after 24 matches.
However the inclusion of their former playmaker – Abdul Basit- is expected to provide some motivation for the Bibires who were one of the best teams of the cancelled 2019/20 season.
Amankona had started the season as captain of the side but immediately Basit was resigned he was handed the armband to signify how much he is respected at the club that he helped win the 2011 Ghana Premier League title.
Basit has returned to the country’s top flight following series of spells abroad.
