Despite a run of shaky performances, the Columbus Crew find itself in a position to challenge for the biggest prize in Major League Soccer, the MLS Cup and captain of the side Ghanaian international Jonathan Mensah has saluted the efforts of his boys.
Following a Sunday 3-1 win against New York City FC and due to Atlanta United FC’s 1-0 loss to Toronto FC, the Crew officially booked a spot in the 2020 MLS Cup playoffs.
“We are just scratching the surface of what we are capable of achieving. I am proud of this team, Playoff spot in the bag, we keep going.” Mensah tweeted on Monday evening.
The qualified teams from the Eastern Conference are Columbus Crew SC of Jonathan Mensah, Orlando City SC, Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC.
The 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs (branded as the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for sponsorship reasons) will be the post-season championship of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top soccer league in the United States and Canada. It will be the 25th edition of the MLS Cup Playoffs, the tournament culminating at the end of the 2020 regular season.
The playoffs will begin on November 20 and conclude with MLS Cup 2020 on December 12.
