Ghanaian forward Prince Osei Owusu has opened up about his dream of representing the Black Stars at a major international tournament.
The 29-year-old CF Montreal captain made his Ghana debut in November last year at the Kirin Cup and is expected to feature in the upcoming friendlies against Germany national football team and Austria national football team later this month. These matches will help head coach Otto Addo decide the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
“It will be a dream come true for me and for every player if you can represent your country, your roots,” Owusu told GhanaSoccernet in an exclusive interview.
Reflecting on his debut and recent time in Ghana, he added: “It’s crazy when I did my debut last season and this year I was in Ghana too, celebrating New Year with my family. It was a special day and a special moment.”
Owusu, who finished last season as CF Montreal’s top scorer with 13 goals in the MLS, believes consistent performances at club level will help secure his place in the Black Stars. “I will keep performing well, help CF Montreal, and hopefully earn the honour of a call-up,” he said.
Before committing to Ghana, Owusu represented Germany at youth level. “It was a longer thought for me to play for my roots. For me, it was clear I wanted to represent Ghana and make my family proud. It was an easy decision,” he explained.
Owusu’s focus now is on impressing during the March international break to cement his place in Ghana’s World Cup squad.
