Black Queens forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has shared her excitement and pride after Ghana’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Tanzania sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The dynamic attacker capped off Ghana’s dominant performance on Monday night with a brilliant finish to round off the scoring, helping the Queens secure a last-eight clash against Algeria.
Ghana took the lead through Princella Adubea, but Tanzania hit back just before halftime with a strike from Stumai Abdallah. However, the Black Queens came out stronger after the break, with Alice Kusi and Evelyn Badu finding the net before Boye-Hlorkah added the final touch.
Speaking after the match, Boye-Hlorkah praised the unity and fighting spirit of the squad.
“I am so proud—proud of the girls, proud of Ghana, and proud of the fans,” she said. “The team really had my back out there. I try to lead by example, I’m vocal on the pitch, and I always push the team to give their best.”
Reflecting on the team’s overall performance, she admitted to taking responsibility for the goal conceded but was quick to highlight the team’s resilience.
“We conceded a goal and I take full responsibility for that. But the girls lifted me up, and I reminded them that we can only win this game if we play as a team—and that’s exactly what we did,” she added.
The Black Queens will now face Algeria in a highly anticipated quarter-final showdown on Saturday, July 19.
