London City FC forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah was named Player of the Match after starring in Ghana’s convincing 4-1 victory over Tanzania in their final Group C clash at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Berkane.
The Black Queens wasted no time making their mark, opening the scoring in the 12th minute through Princella Adubea, who capitalised on a defensive error by the Tanzanian backline. Tanzania responded just before the break with an equaliser from Stumai Athumani, setting up a tense second half.
After the restart, Ghana regained control. Alice Kusi fired the Queens back into the lead before substitute Evelyn Badu extended the advantage with a clinical finish.
In the closing minutes, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah capped off a brilliant team display, latching onto a pass from Nyamekye to score Ghana’s fourth goal in the 90th minute, sealing the emphatic win and confirming her status as the standout performer.
With the victory, Ghana secured second place in Group C with four points. South Africa topped the group after a 4-0 win over Mali, finishing with seven points. Despite their loss, Mali also progressed to the knockout phase as one of the best third-placed teams.
The Black Queens will now turn their focus to the quarter-finals, where they will face Algeria on Saturday, July 19, 2025, as the hunt for their first WAFCON title continues.
