Born to Ghanaian parents in Kingston upon Thames in England, Charles Sagoe Junior is one of the talented young forwards in England.
The 21-year-old, who has been at Arsenal since 2015 after signing from London rivals Fulham, is highly rated and the club expects him to follow the footsteps of Bukayo Saka, whom he has confirmed he looks up to always.
Sagoe Jnr has had loan spells at Swansea and Shrewsbury, where he showed glimpses.
The youngster in an interview with Goal.com revealed that he is open to representing any of the three options available to him in terms of international football, as he qualifies to represent Liberia through his mother, Ghana through his father and England because he was born there.
“I’m always blessed to see recognition from the countries that I’m from,” Sagoe revealed. The youngster has already received a call-up from the Liberian Football Association, where he turned it down but did not entirely close the door.
He continued, “Liberia is from my mum’s side. I’m forever grateful that they have supported me, and it seems that what I’m doing is really standing out to them”.
“So I’m grateful to have that opportunity on the cards, and I’m just going to keep on ticking away wherever I’m playing.
“I’m just going to try and perform to the highest level that i can perform to the highest level that i can perform at, and hopefully more things come from that,” Junior Sagos added.
Opportunities at Arsenal have become so scarce due to the talents available to Arteta on the flanks, where Sagoe predominantly plays. With stars like Saka, Martinelli, Madueke, Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz playing on the wings, Sagoe will need more playing time away from the Gunners to show his full potential.
