Former Black Stars coach, C.K. Akonnor, has given a stamp of approval to the long-term contract granted to Otto Addo, the current coach of the national team.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Akonnor expressed his delight at the contract, stating that it provides Addo with the necessary time to develop and prepare the team for future competitions.

Akonnor, who has previously led the Black Stars, praised Addo’s performance in recent matches against Mali and the Central African Republic, which were crucial in for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He emphasized the importance of national support for Addo, urging Ghanaians to rally behind him and give him the backing he needs to succeed.

“I think eventually finally the fact that they have given him a long term contract says it all,” Akonnor said. “This is what we all hope for meaning that he will have time to prepare this team for a long time at least five years.”

Akonnor commended Addo’s efforts in his first stint as coach of the Black Stars and believes that with continued support from the Ghanaian public, he can lead the team to success in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“He needs our support everybody must support him what he is done in the last two matches I think it is very hopeful it looks like the future is bright we need to support him and whatever he believes is wrong he believes is right we need to support him to do it,” Akonnor added.

This is Otto Addo’s second stint as coach of the Ghana national team, with his current task being to guide Ghana through the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is set to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the USA.

Ghana is currently placed second in Group I of the qualifiers, with nine points, level with Comoros after four games.
