Accra Great Olympics gaffer Annor Walker is worried about how the just ended 2020/21 Ghana Premier League was marred with incessant match-fixing and betting allegations.
According to the Ghana CHAN team coach, “Coaching is unimportant due to match-fixing and betting in our league since scorelines are already known to fans, players, team officials already before the kickoff,”
The country’s domestic league’s image was greatly dented following countless match-fixing allegations especially in the match between relegated Inter Allies and AshantiGold SC at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
In the aforementioned game, a player of Inter Allies- Hashim Musah deliberately scored two own goals to foil the outcome of the game. The player after the match mentioned he picked information that the game had been fixed when his team was down by five goals.
Hashmin, a second-half substitute said he deliberately had to score the two own goals to change the predetermined scoreline. The Ghana Football Association has since commenced investigation to unravel the architects of the supposed match-fixing where AshantiGold SC whitewashed Inter Allies by seven goals to nil.
Commenting further during an interview with Kumasi 104.1 FM, Walker disclosed that: “One of our players approached me in the course of a game, revealing to me that his opponent asked him why are they so aggressive when the game had been fixed,”
“When this happens, it makes coaching unnecessary.” an unhappy Annor Walker added.
