New Colchester United skipper Harry Pell has tasked the club’s young players to learn from Kwame Poku.
The “U’s” captain urged the youth players in the team to emulate the English-born Ghanaian midfielder who grabbed his chance in the team and has been a dominant figure since last season.
“The young lads need to have a look at Poku.” Pell told Gazette
“He didn’t say boo to a goose and was a quiet lad but now he’s a voice in the changing room and has earned his stripes and the respect of the lads, the staff and the club.

“That’s what every single one of the young lads need to aspire to and hopefully they will move on because as a player, they need to be looking at the likes of (Sammie) Szmodics, Frankie Kent and Kane Vincent-Young.
“The club gave them a base to go and earn a lot of money and be really successful in the game.”
Poku won the Colchester United young player of the year award for 2020 and was also nominated for both player of the season and goal of the season.
