Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has shared his most memorable moment with students at the University of Ghana, highlighting the significance of sports psychology in shaping elite athletes.
During a lecture led by Dr. Collins Agyemang Badu, Ayew recounted his journey with the Black Stars and emphasized the importance of mental fortitude in professional sports.
Ayew, who has 120 appearances and 24 goals to his name for Ghana, pinpointed his participation in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a defining moment in his life. He recalled the thrill of being selected for the national team and making his international debut as a late-match substitute in a friendly match against Senegal in 2007.
“I was young, I had dreams, and in one moment my dreams were fulfilled,” Ayew reminisced. “There’s nothing better than that moment when your dreams are fulfilled. Competing at the 2008 AFCON was a great moment.”
Ayew also stressed the importance of resilience in sports, stating that it is an essential part of mental work.
“You’re human, sometimes you have to fall down deep, wake up and go again,” he said. His message resonated with the students, who were inspired by his candid account of his experiences and insights into the world of professional sports.
