Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams has been excluded from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.
The 29-year-old forward recently underwent a procedure to address discomfort caused by a troublesome scar on his left foot, as confirmed by his club.
Black Stars coach Otto Addo announced the squad at the GFA headquarters, with training set to begin on Thursday at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon. Ghana is eager to get back on track after a mixed start in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, where they currently stand in 4th place.
The campaign started positively with a 1-0 victory over Madagascar in Kumasi, but was followed by a 1-0 defeat to Comoros in Moroni, leaving the team with one win and one loss from their first two matches. The qualifier against Mali is scheduled for Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Stade 26 Mars in Bamako, with a kickoff time of 19:00.
Afterwards, the Black Stars will host the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday, June 10, 2024. Winning both games is crucial for Ghana to improve their chances of qualifying for the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
