After a meeting on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the headquarters of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) the FIF Executive Committee took important decisions to terminate all competitions of the 2019/20 season due the impact of the Covid-19 and Racing Club lead the league standings after 20 weeks with 38 points are declared champions of Ivory Coast.
Six match-days were remaining to finish the 14-club league competition but the leagues would not continue in the country of Didier Drogba despite the financial boost from FIFA’s Covid-19 relief plan for member associations.
In particular the championships of Ligue 1, Ligue 2, Division 3, the National Cup, Regional Division, District, women’s football, corporate football and the youth championship have all been definitely ended whilst the Ivory Coast FA invalidates the National Cup competition – for wjcih the winner would originally win the ticket to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
For allocation of Africa places, champions Racing Club represent the West African country in the next CAF Champions league edition to be played whereas second-placed San Pedro enters the CAF Confederation Cup.
Also the FIF decided that there would be no relegation in the current season of Ligue 1 but two clubs would be promoted from the Ligue 2 to the elite league meaning the 2020/21 season will be a 16-club league.
Meanwhile the Ghana FA is yet to decide on the current season that was halted following the outbreak of the Covid-19.
