Crystal Palace coach Patrick Vieira believes Ghana star Jordan Ayew is not scoring goals because he lacks self-confidence.
This comes after the Ghanaian international’s inability to score for the club since last year in a 4-1 win over Leeds United in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old Ghanaian forward was had a glorious and difficult to miss chance to make it 2-0 for his team against Brighton and Hove Albion last Monday after being played through on goal with the goalkeeper but shot went wide instead.
After the unfortunate and heartbreaking 1-1 stalemate at home to Brighton, Vieira was quick to attribute Ayew’s recent poor goal scoring form to lack of self-confidence.
“Jordan was like every other player, everybody was really disappointed not to take the three points,” Vieira said after the game.
“Obviously Jordan missing the chance was important but when he doesn’t score, especially a forward, here is a lack of confidence and self-belief.
“It is my responsibility to bring him back to what he can do and scoring goals.”
The former Swansea City AFC and Aston Villa man has made six apperances for Crystal Palace in the ongoing campaign and is yet to hit the back of the net for the Eagles.
He is the main striker for the Black Stars and has been invited for Ghana’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe next month.
