Former Ghana international Yaw Acheampong says the current Ghana male senior National team [Black Stars ] has no future.
Speaking in an interview with Bechem based After2 Radio, the former Accra Great Olympics coach said most of the Black Stars players are ageing and must be backed up by head coach Avram Grant.
The Black Stars are currently holding residential camping in Dubai ahead of the 2017 Nations Cup which will be staged in Gabon.
“We all know this current Black Stars players are ageing and they should be backed up to secure a future for the team” he said
Mr. Acheampong argues that most of the players will be playing their last games for the Black Stars in Gabon since would have been prudent for Coach Avram to invite talented youth players to his camp to as well create competition in the team..
“Most of the players in the senior national team will be playing their last games for the team in Gabon” so it means that we will need more young players to replace them” He added
Coach Yaw Acheampong further indicated that Ghanaians are no more interested in watching the Black Stars play because of the neglect of of local players in the team.
He believes Ghanaians would have thronged the various edifice to watch the team play if some great players in the domestic league had been handed call ups to the national team.
“Most of the reasons why most Ghanaians are not interested in watching the Black Stars matches are because of the exclusion of the local players”.
“During out time the Black Stars people loved watching our matches because we had some fantastic local players like the Abedi Pele, Kwesi Appiah, Michael Osei, Opoku Sampene, Myself, etc. who were really making their names in the local league and were really loved by the people of Ghana” .
In conclusion the former Real Sociedad player suggested there should be a number allocated to local players to bring back the interest of Ghanaians to the team.
The Black Stars are currently Dubai preparing ahead of the upcoming AFCON 2017.
The team beat Uzbek side Bunyokdor 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon a pre- AFCON friendly.
