Al Sadd Sports Club announced preliminary agreement with Ghana skipper Andre Ayew on Wednesday after his contract run out at English Championship side Swansea City at the end the 2020/21 season.
Al Sadd was the first football club that 17-year old Abedi Ayew played for after leaving Real Tamale United in 1982 after the Africa Cup of Nations in Libya. The Maestro , however, did not stay in the Gulf for long as after less than ten matches, seven goals scored, he left the Arab country in search of more competitive football.
And so the Qatari club history with the Ayew family just repeated after some 39 years. Also the duo share Olympique de Marseille as former clubs as both father and son once played for the French giants.
“#AlSadd have reached an agreement to sign Ghanaian star Andre Ayew. The player will arrive in Doha in the morning to complete the routine procedures, followed by the signing of the contract and the official announcement” the club said in a Twitter statement.
Andre scored 17 goals in 47 matches during the 2020/21 season as Swansea City failed to qualify for the English Premier League in the ply-offs.
