Dundee United announced the signing of Ghanaian midfeilder Isaac Pappoe from Hungarian top-flight outfit Ferencvaros on a season-long loan deal ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 season.

The move is subject to both international and SFA clearance.

Pappoe began his footballing journey in the capital with Golden Kicks SC. He was earmarked as one of the country’s hottest prospects after impressing in the GKSC youth ranks, and received the call of duty from Abdul Karim Zito to represent Ghana at Under-21 level against Mexico and Switzerland.

Four months later, aged just 18, Pappoe took a 4,500-mile leap of faith to link up with FC Ashdod of Israel, subsequently embarking on a formative loan spell with AS Ashdod in the second tier immediately upon his arrival.

The energetic midfielder chalked up three assists and netted his first professional goal during his debut campaign in senior football, whilst also topping the Liga Leumit charts for dribble success percentage amongst players aged 21 and under.

Pappoe’s exploits in the Middle East attracted multiple suitors from the European market, and he opted to join Swiss side FC Aarau in the summer of 2023 – then under the charge of Swiss goalscoring royalty, Alexander Frei.

Another stellar term followed in the Jura mountains, as the rising Ghanaian star racked up a further five assists and two goals powering the Eagles’ engine room.

Throughout 2023/24, Pappoe maintained a phenomenal 87% passing accuracy, averaged in excess of five interceptions per 90 minutes and ranked second in the division for passes into the final third when compared with his peers – with his final tally standing at 169.

Eyebrow-raising statistical excellence piqued the interest of Hungarian giants Ferencvaros, who acted swiftly to table a four-year deal which Pappoe inked in July 2024.

Last year, Pappoe featured on five occasions under Pascal Jansen, maintaining a 100% win record as the Budapest-based outfit went on to claim their 36th title.

HIS WORK ETHIC IS INFECTIOUS

After securing the signature of his sixth summer addition, Dundee United Manager, Jim Goodwin, said: “Isaac is a really exciting talent whom we’ve worked extremely hard to bring to the club amid strong interest from elsewhere.

“His energy and work ethic is infectious, and he has terrific ball-carrying and progressing abilities. Out of possession, he reads the game intelligently – a quality which allows him to intercept passes in dangerous areas and transition defence into attack quickly.

“We enjoyed great success with the loan market last year – Luca Stephenson, Emmanuel Adegboyega and Sam Dalby amongst others were instrumental in our European qualification – and we’re confident Isaac can continue along this trend.”
