Al Ahly have confirmed that Pitso Mosimane will remain in Cairo amid rumours linking him with the vacant South Africa job.
Since signing for Al Ahly in October 2020, Mosimane has been quite successful as he won all competitions he took part in [CAF Champions League and Egypt Cup] apart from the Club World Cup where he finished third.
He now also reached the Champions League knockout stages with the Red Devils, where he will face either Wydad Casablanca, Mamelodi Sundowns, or Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
However, many questions have arisen about his future with the Reds following the sacking of South Africa manager Molefi Ntseki.
Several names have linked with the job, but it seems that the South Africa FA (SAFA) technical committee formed to find a new coach has its eyes set on Al Ahly’s Pitso Mosimane.
According to Al Ahly legend and pundit, Ahmed Shobier, SAFA, are persistent with their offer as they even got the country’s Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture to call Mosimane to try and persuade him.
Despite Mosimane’s refusal yet again, SAFA have planned another meeting with him on Tuesday with an even higher ranked official, Shobeir confirmed on OnTime Sports TV.
However, Al Ahly director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has ruled Mosimane’s departure, saying the South African will continue with the Cairo giants.
“Al Ahly haven’t received anything official regarding Pitso Mosimane,” Abdel-Hafiz said.
“Mosimane has settled his future and confirmed that he will continue with Al Ahly in the upcoming period,” he added.
