Egyptian Football Association ‘EFA’ board officially approved the implementation of the video assistant referee ‘VAR’ in the Egyptian Premier League.
In a statement published on the association’s official Facebook page, the EFA revealed that they started preparations to use VAR in the upcoming period and got in contact with FIFA to further discuss its execution.
“This decision comes as the EFA, led by chairman Hany Abou-Rida, is keen on supporting Egyptian referees and help them develop,” the statement said.
After being used in the World Cup, different football associations started working on introducing VAR to their competitions to assure fair decisions from referees, mainly penalty claims.
The EFA also said that they will approve requests from clubs asking for foreign referees to officiate their matches as long as clubs pay 15,000 USD to the association for the expenses of hiring referees.
