Portuguese referee João Pinheiro has been appointed to take charge of Zamalek’s Wednesday’s clash with Smouha in the Egyptian Premier League.
The Whites have requested foreign referees for their remaining league games after drawing their last three matches against Al Gaish, Arab Contractors, and Al Ahly.
The EFA have accepted their request and have appointed João Pinheiro to referee their highly anticipated game with Smouha on Wednesday at Petrosport.
Pinheiro has taken charge of 27 games this season across seven competitions, most notably the Taça da Liga final between Porto and Sporting Lisbon, which the latter won on penalties.
He also officiated one game in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round, 15 games in the Liga NOS, and a friendly between Brazil and Panama on March 23.
The 31-year-old will be assisted by compatriots Pedro Mota, Bruno Rodrigues, and Manuel Oliver.
Zamalek enter the game in second place with 54 points from 23 games, one behind Al Ahly, however, the Reds have played one more game than their arch-rivals.
