Egyptian Premier League side Ismaily SC have submitted a formal offer to sign Stephen Amankona from Berekum Chelsea ahead of the 2025/26 season, according to multiple local reports.
The 25-year-old forward has been in sensational form since returning to Berekum Chelsea in early 2023 following a brief spell with Asante Kotoko. Known for his versatility, composure in front of goal, and ability to decide games, Amankona ended the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign as the top scorer with 15 goals.
This marks the second consecutive season he has clinched the Golden Boot, having netted 19 goals in the 2023/24 season — a rare feat that has cemented his status as one of the most lethal forwards in Ghana’s top flight.
Amankona’s consistent performances have attracted interest from both local giants and clubs abroad. Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, as well as teams from South Africa and North Africa, are reportedly monitoring his situation closely. However, Egyptian giants Ismaily SC have taken the lead with an official $65,000 bid, hoping to finalize the deal swiftly.
Kumasi-based Ezra TV/FM reports that Ismaily are optimistic about sealing the transfer, viewing Amankona as a key addition to strengthen their frontline for the upcoming season.
The striker, who was recently in Accra participating in the All-Festival Game at the University of Ghana Stadium, has yet to comment publicly on his future.
Should the move materialize, it would mark Amankona’s first venture outside Ghana — a step many believe is well-deserved after two stellar seasons leading the Ghana Premier League scoring charts.
