Ghanaian teen Jeremie Frimpong has hailed his Manchester City U23 side’s “class” performance in the 1-0 victory over Leicester City U23s in the Premier League 2 Division 1.
Frimpong, who played in his familiar right-back position, was assured in possession and showed great energy to get up and down the right flank.
Speaking about the victory, he said: “The team played class. We needed a win because we were going through a spell where weren’t winning. We’ve been waiting for this win and we’re happy. We’ve got to keep this up.”
The Young Blues settled any nerves by opening the scoring early and Frimpong highlighted just how crucial that was.
“It was so important,” he said. “We could have scored more but that first goal was all that we needed because we defended well.”
The 18-year-old has been in good form recently and his impressive performances have earned him a February PL2 Player of the Month nomination.
When reacting to the nomination, Frimpong said: “That makes me feel good. I’m always giving 100% on the pitch and it’s paid off because people are seeing it so I’m glad. Hopefully, I can go on to win it!”
Frimpong joined Manchester City in 2016 and has a contract which runs out on 2020.
