Former captain of the Black Stars, Kuuku Dadzie, has called for the institution of proper structures to improve the quality of the local football league.
He said for the nation to compete favorably on the continent, the local league must be very competitive.
“We have to sit down as a country, put the right structures in place and do the right things as far as football is concerned to be able to make the needed impact,” he stressed.
Coach Dadzie, who shared his thoughts with the Graphic Sports on the Black Stars B’s elimination by Burkina Faso in next year’s Kenya Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifier, said “it was obvious our players were not properly conditioned and so they could not apply the defensive and attacking principles of play very well”.
Although he admitted that the team had some good players, Coach Dadzie expressed surprise at their attitude on the field of play and cautioned that henceforth, “We must watch the selection of players as well”.
He said aside player conditioning, the players’ ability to respond technically and tactically to the coaches’ exercises, as well as their mindset in terms of psychology, was very paramount in the game.
He, however, explained that when the players were unable to adhere to these principles, then there were bound to be problems.
“Once the players are unable to apply these four principles, then there must be something wrong and this could be based on the kind of exercises the players undertook before the match,” he said.
On the way foward, the former Black Stars defender advised that, “after losing out on two occasions for the CHAN, the way forward depends on how we organise our league to be competitive which would also improve on the level of conditioning of our players,”
