Former Black Stars defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour has grieved over the performance of goalkeeper Razak Brimah in Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations final Group D fixture.
Mohamed Salah’s 11th minute fierce free-kick was all that the Pharaohs needed to hand the Black Stars their first defeat in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations at the Stade Port Gentil on Wednesday. Many Ghanaians have condemned the FC Cordoba goalkeeper performance in the game against Egypt.
Some share the view that he made a blunder for his position behind the human wall which eventually gave Egypt the only goal in the crucial clash. And Kuffour has lashed Braimah’s poor display from the goalkeeper in the team’s slim defeat.
“He should have done better there because I don’t understand why as a goalkeeper you’ll construct a wall and position yourself just behind it,” said Kuffour.
He added “In such situations, one step and you’re out of the game and Salah saw a mistake in his positioning, and he played smart by planting the ball there. If he had positioned himself well and the ball goes through the wall, I’ll say it’s not his fault and say well done to the player but I don’t know what’s going through his mind. If he had stayed there, it could be possible that he’s not going to save the ball but stay there and just protect yourself.”
The Black Stars will play against DR Congo in the quarterfinals in Oyem on Sunday after finishing second spot whiles group winners Egypt will take on fellow North Africans Morocco on the same day .
