Royal Antwerp forward, William Owusu Acheampong has expressed his excitement after receiving his maiden Black Stars call-up.
The speedy winger who can also play as an attacker has been included in Coach Kwasi Appiah’s 21 squad to face Kenya in the second round of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers which will be played in Nairo next month.
Owusu, has been very outstanding for Royal Antwerp in the Belgium topflight this season, scoring some important goals week in week out.
The player tells SportsworldGhana.com exclusively that he is very elated after earning an invite for the qualifier match, adding that the invitation has come as a surprise to him.
“I don’t know how to express it but I am really glad and delighted about my call-up for the national team. It has been a dream for a while. You know it’s the dream of every player to represent the national team so it is such a wonderful welcoming news for me, I am really glad and I thank God,” an elated Owusu told SportsworldGhana.com on Wednesday morning.
”I think it’s God’s time, I am just happy to be in the squad and I also thank you all for following my progress over the years,” added the lanky striker.
Owusu has scored one goal in four appearances this season.
The lanky forward has spent the last eight years in Belgium since leaving Portuguese side Gil Vicente.
He has played for Cercle Brugge, Westerlo and KSV Roeselare.
