Kwame Baah became first choice goalkeeper at Asante Kotoko when starting goalkeeper and captain Felix Annan took time off to organize his wedding ceremony after Week 4 of last season and ahead of the new season Maxwell Konadu will not reverse this decision, SPORTSWorldGhana.com can report.
Kotoko won two and lost two, scored 4 goals and conceded three in the four games that Felix Annan started in the league before Baah took over – a decision hat has been obviously difficult for the captain to accept judging from his last interview with a Ghanaian Germany-based radio station.
“When you go to Liverpool Alisson was injured. Adrian started the season and Liverpool won all the games he played. He kept clean sheets but when Alisson came back he went to play ahead of Adrian. But here in this country people see things differently. Maybe some people believe in “juju” or something and that if this keeper keeps clean sheets he should play” Felix Annan ranted.
The longest serving Kotoko player currently went further to even dare Maxwell Konadu to speak publicly on the issue of whether the gaffer has a personal issue with him or not beyond football whilst adding that he holds no grudges against the 2012 Ghana Premier League winning coach.
But SPORTSWorldGhana.com can authoritatively reveal that Maxwell Konadu will not change his starting goalkeeper for the 2020/21 season but there will be serious competition for the starting goalkeeping position and Baah is aware of that .
Baah took custody of the Kotoko goal from Week 5 of the 2019/20 campaign against Ebusua Dwarfs ( Kotoko won 2-0) and went on to start against Accra Hearts of Oak on Week 6 for which the team of Maxwell Konadu won 2-1. In all the former Inter Allies custodian kept 6 clean sheets in 10 starts before the league was suspended in March and later cancelled in July.
Felix who kept a clean sheet in the four games he played returned to the Kotoko starting line-up in the Round of 64 FA Cup game defeat against Division One side Asokwa Deportivo in Obuasi. The Porcupine Warriors scored first but the Division One side stunned the Ghanaian giants coming down from a goal down to win 2-1.
Konadu has been impressed by the performances of Baah who for now remains the number 1 custodian of Asante Kotoko but Felix Annan will compete.
