Midfield authority Elvis Opoku is out of contract at Aduana Stars with the club more than desperate to offer a fresh contract , SportsworldGhana.com authoritatively reveals.
The former MTN FA Cup top goalscorer – who joined the Ogya side in 2014/15 season on a three-year deal – had his contract expired last September but the 2009/10 premier league winner tied him down to a two-month short-term agreement in a bid to keep their talisman till the end of the current season.
Meanwhile according to club sources some management members are unhappy as to why the contract of the midfielder – who remains a key part of the club – should be allowed to run out as the player leaves as free agent especially when there will be interested buyers waiting to have the signature of one of the best central midfielders in the country.
Elvis established himself as a first team regular in Dormaa since making the Brong Ahafo move and has put on the Ogya shirt not less than 80 times as an integral member of the team.
News is that some other big names could leave the club at the end of the season as one has already turned down contract extension talks insisting that his ambition at the moment is to win the league title with the Ogya boys before going to the negotiating table to decide to continue or leave.
Aduana Stars defeated title rivals WAFA 1-0 on Wednesday in Dormaa to open a four-point gap at the top on 51 points and the title is all but lost for Yusif Abubakar’s side.
